Music- Jon Wayne and the Pain “Relax Myself Inside”
I headed up to Mt. Baker today with Nick Ennen , Tim Carlson, and Jeremy Dubs to have some fun and find some good pow. The intention was to get some turns and we instead ended up with some serious lines dropped by both riders. They guys hiked about 2/3 the way up Mt. Herman twice. It was a great first day to get out and shred.
Mt Baker Snowboarding with Nick Ennen & Tim Carlson for our first day of the season, Nov 14 2011. The snowpack was thin and there were some rocks underneath, but there was also pockets of decent pow. The Mt Baker Ski Area is going to open this friday November 18th since La Niña is bringing more snow this week in early November.

Watch this video of the winning runs from Tim Carlson and Forrest Burki in the North Face Masters at Crystal Mountain, Washington.
Tim Carlson took first place, which got him a cool $5000 and Forrest Burki got 3rd, scoring himself some cash as well. These guys really showed how the Northwest can breed some insane snowboarders. They were competing against some heavy hitters out there like Lucas Debari and Xavier Delerue. The North Face Masters next stop will be in Kirkwood, California.Tim Carlson and Forrest Burki film with us here at Wildcard Movies and they have sick parts in our latest movie “The Saturday Night Ride.”
Tim Carlson Interview
Wildcard talked with Tim Carlson this afternoon on the phone as he prepares to head to the Mt Baker Banked Slalom.
You took second on the initial qualifier day…
“Qualifying was sick pow and it was mellow. I rode and charged but didn’t think it was totally amazing or anything. When I got to the bottom everyone was stoked on my run. It felt like taking a line I would take on an average day of snowboarding.”
Whats up your winning line?
“I picked the nastiest line and committed. It was icy and hard to step up. Not many people were willing to go for it in those types of conditions. I felt confident because Blair Habenicht and I studied the lines. I stayed at his condo, and we talked about the lines we were going to take. I took pictures from “The Throne” and totally dissected my line. I stuck with my line. I checked it out from below and it didn’t look as bad as it did from other places, so I decided to stick with it. I’m no good at backing out on that type of stuff.”
Interesting judging style at the Masters?
“The judges were spot on, it was a good gig. they were looking for the right thing.. I studied the lines they judged over the years and tried to understand what they were looking for. They want the most cliffs, for the riders to take a fall line run, don’t traverse. Each judge looks for different types of riding, some for big mt and others for freestyle tricks. Hetzel was looking for more flips.”
Final Thoughts?
“It was such a good time. I made the best of the conditions, it was icy, just charged and rode what I would normally ride. They are sending me down to Kirkwood for the finals. Stoked on that.”

Stevens Pass Video footage from opening day by Wildcard Movies.

Stevens Pass opened for the winter 2010-2011 season on December 1st. It was a great time shredding the chairlifts at Stevens, which has great skiing and snowboarding available to the greater Seattle area, about an hour to hour and a half from the city.
We recruited some of the Wildcard Pros and ams to show us whats up with everything in the beginning of the season. Tim Carlson, Andy Bergin-Sperry, Nick Ennen, Kurt Jenson, Patrick McCarthy, Scotty Witsil, Billy Summers, Brian Schaefer, Jeremy Dubs and more show you what opening day was like. Shredding powder, pillow lines, and freestyle madness, we explore the mountain and show you a fun time.
Watch the video and enjoy a peek at the conditions for opening day at Stevens Pass.
